My Heroes are different
- Ellen DeGeneres is a middle-aged, American woman with a talk show, and Malala Yousafzai is a young girl from Pakistan.
- Ellen has lots of money that she donates to over 30 different charities, and Malala is very poor, but she still inspires people with her speeches.
- However, they both share something - that they are heroes.
- Both Malala and Ellen were willing to stand up for what they believed was right, even if they knew it would put them in danger.
- Coming out put Ellen in danger of losing her popularity and her job. Speaking for girl’s education rights put Malala in physical danger by the Taliban.
- Both persevered through troubled times and remained steadfast in their beliefs.
- When Ellen came out, her show was cancelled and she lost a lot of public support, but she did not give up, and went on to be wildly successful - and openly gay. After Malala was shot, she recovered and survived, and still speaks out against the Taliban. Being attacked didn’t change her mind, but it did make her stronger.
- Both of these women are brave, kind, and bring hope to society.
